Gardner's rookie season was historically significant: he became the first rookie cornerback since Ronnie Lott in 1981 to earn first-team All-Pro honors. His streak of not allowing a touchdown in coverage stretched from his college days through his first two NFL seasons, covering over 1,500 snaps. He is one of only three cornerbacks since 2000 to win Defensive Rookie of the Year and make first-team All-Pro in the same season.

AwardsGardner won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2022. He has been named first-team All-Pro twice (2022, 2023) and selected to the Pro Bowl in 2023. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2022.
