Santiago Wanderers

August 1892 marked the birth of Club de Deportes Santiago Wanderers in Valparaíso, a date that anchors the club as the oldest football team still active in Chile. The squad wears green shirts, green socks, and white shorts, a kit design borrowed directly from the Irish national team to honor their roots. Their home ground, Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander, has hosted matches since 1931 and holds about 20,575 spectators.

The team competes in the Chilean Primera División, though they have spent time in lower divisions throughout their long history. Fans call them El Decano del Fútbol Chileno because of their century-long presence on the field. In 2007, local officials added the club to Valparaíso's list of intangible cultural heritage, recognizing its deep ties to the working-class community.

A fierce rivalry defines much of the club's calendar. The Clásico Porteño pits Wanderers against Everton de Viña del Mar, a match first played in 1916. These games bring together two neighboring cities with distinct social identities, creating one of the most heated fixtures in South American football. [edit]

The club started as a group of young men playing soccer in the port city before formally organizing in August 1892. They became founding members of the professional league when it launched in 1933. Over the decades, Wanderers secured multiple Copa Chile titles, establishing themselves as a major force in domestic cup competitions despite facing financial struggles that occasionally pushed them toward relegation.

In September 2026, the youth academy made headlines by reaching the final of the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup. The team traveled to Madrid to face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Although Wanderers showed strong competitive spirit throughout the tournament, Real Madrid won the final 3-1 on September 19, 2026.
