Samuele Ricci

Samuele Ricci is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Como 1907 on loan from AC Milan and represents the Italy national team. Born in Pontedera, he has developed into one of Serie A's most reliable midfield engines known for his tactical intelligence and ball progression skills.

As of late 2026, Ricci continues to be a central figure in Italian football. His career trajectory saw him rise from a local talent to a key asset for major clubs like Torino and Milan before moving to Como. He remains a staple in the Italian league's midfield landscape with a reputation for consistency and professionalism. [edit]

Samuele Ricci was born on August 21, 2001, in Pontedera, a town in the province of Pisa within the Tuscany region. Unlike many young stars who join the youth systems of massive powerhouses immediately, Ricci's development took place in the disciplined environment of Empoli FC. He joined their academy at a young age where he honed the technical foundations that would define his playing style.

His early years were marked by steady progress through the youth ranks rather than sudden viral fame. Ricci made his senior debut for Empoli in 2019 while still a teenager. The 2020–2021 season served as his true breakthrough period. During this campaign, he established himself as a regular starter in Serie A, earning praise for his composure under pressure and ability to dictate play from deep positions. This consistent performance caught the eye of scouts across Europe and set the stage for his eventual move to a top-tier club. [edit]

Ricci's professional ascent accelerated rapidly after his breakthrough season with Empoli. In the summer of 2022, he transferred to Torino FC for a reported fee of approximately €15 million. At Torino, he evolved into a complete box-to-box midfielder, refining his physicality and defensive reading of the game alongside his passing range.

The next major milestone arrived in summer 2023 when AC Milan signed him on a five-year contract for a base fee of €25 million plus add-ons. This transfer placed him among the elite midfielders in Europe. During his tenure at Milan, Ricci played a pivotal role in the squad's rotation, contributing significantly to their Serie A title challenges and Champions League campaigns. His work rate and ability to break up opposition attacks made him a fan favorite.

In August 2026, Ricci moved to Como 1907. On August 29, 2026, AC Milan officially confirmed his departure on loan to the newly promoted side with a mandatory obligation to buy for €23.5 million plus bonuses. This deal marked a new chapter in his career as he transitioned to become a central figure in Como's ambitious project under manager Fabio Liverani. [edit]

Media portrayals consistently highlight Ricci as a humble and technically gifted professional. He is viewed as a "classy" midfielder who prioritizes team success over individual glory. His image is built on reliability, tactical discipline, and a quiet confidence that belies his age. Unlike some peers who seek constant media attention, Ricci prefers to let his performances speak for themselves, earning respect from coaches and analysts alike. [edit]
