Saint Seiya

On December 10, 1985, the first chapter of Saint Seiya appeared in Weekly Shōnen Jump, launching a story about five young warriors defending the goddess Athena. These Bronze Saints wore sacred armors called Cloths modeled after constellations and fought using an internal energy known as Cosmo. The narrative quickly expanded beyond Earth to include battles against Silver Saints and eventually deities from Greek mythology.

The series ran for nearly five years, concluding on January 25, 1990, with 28 collected volumes released by Shueisha. Viz Media later translated the work for North American audiences, introducing Western readers to the intense martial arts action and tragic character arcs that defined the franchise. By 2022, the manga had sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

Creator Masami Kurumada returned to the universe decades later with Saint Seiya: Next Dimension, which began serialization in 2006 and concluded in 2024. This sequel explored the history of the 18th century and deepened the lore surrounding Athena. A third main entry titled Saint Seiya: Heaven Chapter is scheduled to begin in 2026, continuing the saga into new mythological territories. [edit]
