Ryan McGinley

Ryan McGinley burst onto the art scene straight out of Ramsey, New Jersey, bringing a fresh, sun-drenched perspective to photography. Born on October 17, 1977, he started snapping pictures in 1998 and quickly found his voice documenting the wild nights and lazy days of his friends. His work centers on themes of youth, freedom, and community, often featuring nude or semi-nude figures in natural landscapes. This distinct style helped him secure a solo show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2003 when he was just 25 years old, making him one of the youngest artists ever to receive such an honor. That same year, American Photo Magazine named him Photographer of the Year, cementing his status as a rising star.[edit]
