RuPaul's Drag Race

RuPaul's Drag Race is a reality competition series that premiered on February 2, 2009, on Logo TV. Created and hosted by RuPaul, the show pits drag queens against each other in a weekly elimination format, testing their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. Contestants face challenges like the Snatch Game, a parody of Match Game where they impersonate celebrities; design challenges where they construct outfits from unconventional materials; and the high-stakes lip-sync for your life, where the bottom two queens battle to stay in the competition. The winner is crowned America's Next Drag Superstar and receives a cash prize, typically $100,000 in recent seasons, along with a year's supply of Anastasia Beverly Hills cosmetics and other prizes.

The series originated as a search for a queen who could embody the essence of drag stardom. RuPaul, already a household name in the LGBTQ+ community, teamed up with World of Wonder Productions to create a show that would showcase drag artistry to a wider audience. In 2023, the show moved to MTV for season 15, which featured the first trans woman winner, Sasha Colby, a legendary figure in the drag community.
