Runaway

Released on October 4, 2010, Runaway emerged as the second single from Kanye West's fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The track stands apart in West's discography for its raw vulnerability and experimental structure. It opens with a minimalist piano motif played by Noah Goldstein that sets a somber tone before West delivers his vocals about infidelity and self-reflection. Pusha T enters later with a sharp, darker verse that contrasts sharply with West's melodic delivery.

The song is widely categorized as progressive rap but incorporates distinct elements of pop, R&B, and art rock textures. Its most memorable moment arrives during an extended outro lasting over six minutes. West repeatedly sings the refrain "It's a party for your heart" while the music builds into a chaotic, saxophone-heavy crescendo that has become a staple of live performances.

Critical reception was overwhelmingly positive, with Pitchfork naming it the best song of 2010 and Rolling Stone including it in their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The track won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards in 2012. While it peaked at number 76 on the US Billboard Hot 100, it found greater success on other charts, reaching number 19 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart and number 28 on the UK Singles Chart.
