Rotten Tomatoes Movieclips
United States"The official clip library for Hollywood, now under the Rotten Tomatoes banner."
About
The company began in 2009 as Movieclips, a Los Angeles startup built on a then-novel premise: license short, studio-approved scenes from major Hollywood films and package them into a searchable, embeddable catalog. Founder Rich Raddon, a tech and entertainment entrepreneur, set up shop in Venice, and the operation grew into one of the largest collections of officially licensed movie clips on the web. Fandango, the NBCUniversal-owned ticketing company, acquired the business and rebranded it Fandango Movieclips in 2014, with a logo refresh following in 2015.
In July 2022, Fandango merged its two video properties, announcing that Rotten Tomatoes and Movieclips were joining forces to create the Rotten Tomatoes YouTube Network. The combined operation drew on Movieclips' existing library of more than 100,000 short- and long-form videos and took the Rotten Tomatoes Movieclips name that same year. The rebrand layered the review site's credibility over a fandom-driven clip archive that had already spent a decade building studio relationships.
Today the service distributes licensed footage from most major studios, including Universal, Amazon MGM, Paramount, Warner Bros., Disney, 20th Century Studios, and Sony, plus Lionsgate and DreamWorks. Content runs across movieclips.com and a family of YouTube channels, with the flagship channel reporting more than 66.4 million subscribers as of mid-2026. The catalog has expanded beyond film into television clips, and the network produces curated compilations under labels such as Best Scenes, Best Kills, Best Songs, and Best Stunts.
Movieclips does not produce original films and does not sell tickets directly. It functions as a licensing and marketing-distribution engine sitting between studios and fans, giving viewers a free, legal way to watch individual scenes while giving studios a promotional outlet. Revenue comes from advertising, notably YouTube ad revenue sharing, along with licensing arrangements and promotional partnerships. As a unit of privately held Fandango, the brand does not report standalone financials.
