Romelia War Chronicle

Ryō Ariyama's light novel series subverts the classic fantasy narrative by exploring what happens after the demon king is defeated. The story follows Countess Romelia, who, immediately after triumphing over the Demon King Zergis alongside her fiancé Prince Henri, is publicly humiliated when the prince dissolves their engagement. Abandoned by her former comrades, Romelia refuses to despair. Her homeland remains under demon control, its people enslaved. Determined to liberate them, she embarks on a solo military campaign, systematically overcoming obstacles: she pressures local lords to seize fortresses when she has no army, sends inexperienced recruits to hunt monsters for combat experience, and strikes deals with merchants to secure funding. With loyal allies gradually gathering around her, Romelia marches to war, blending military strategy with political maneuvering in a post-final boss scenario where humanity's troubles are far from over.

The series began as a web serial on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in August 2019. Shogakukan picked it up for print under their Gagaga Books imprint. The first volume, illustrated by Kodama, was published on June 19, 2020. Subsequent volumes feature art by Ryō Kamito, who also handles the manga adaptation serialized via the Manga Doa app since April 2021. As of November 2025, six main volumes and one side story volume have been released in Japan. An English-language manga adaptation is published by Seven Seas Entertainment, with volume 2 scheduled for April 28, 2026. An anime adaptation by studio Atra is set for a 2026 premiere. [edit]
