Rolex
SwitzerlandAbout
Rolex is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The company was founded in London in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law Alfred Davis, originally under the name Wilsdorf and Davis. The Rolex brand name was registered in 1908, and the company became Rolex Watch Co. Ltd. in 1915. After World War I, the business relocated to Geneva due to economic instability in post-war Britain. In 1920, Wilsdorf registered Montres Rolex SA in Geneva, which later became Rolex SA. Since 1960, the company has been owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a private family trust. Rolex is one of the most recognized luxury brands globally, synonymous with prestige, precision, and durability. Its watches, from the Submariner to the Daytona, are icons of horology. The company also owns Tudor, a more affordable sister brand. In 2023, Rolex announced the acquisition of its longtime retail partner Bucherer, and in 2024, construction began on a new flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, near Billionaires' Row. The brand's market dominance is reflected in its estimated annual production of over one million watches and its status as the world's largest luxury watchmaker by revenue.
