Records
Roger Deakins's trophy case is extraordinary. He is one of only a handful of cinematographers to win two Oscars, and he did so after a record 13 nominations without a win. His five BAFTA Awards tie him for the most ever won by a cinematographer. In 2021, he received a special BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema, a rare honour. The ASC has awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award twice, a unique distinction. He was knighted in 2021, becoming Sir Roger Deakins, and inducted into the Cinematographers Hall of Fame in 2024. His influence is so profound that many directors consider him the greatest living cinematographer.
