Rocky

Rocky is an Eridian, a silicon-carbon based lifeform from the high-gravity planet Erid. His species evolved with five legs, a tough rock-like carapace, and multifaceted eyes, adapted to survive in vacuum for extended periods. Rocky was chosen for a desperate mission: his world, like Earth, was threatened by Astrophage, a microorganism consuming the sun's energy. He was sent aboard a ship named the Hail Mary to investigate the same anomaly that Ryland Grace was sent to study from Earth.

Rocky's journey brought him to a rendezvous point near the star Tau Ceti, where he encountered Ryland's identical vessel. After a tense first contact, Rocky saved Ryland's life by repairing critical damage to his ship, an act of pure altruism that forged an unbreakable bond between them.[edit]
