RKC Waalwijk, a Dutch football club based in the town of Waalwijk, North Brabant, plays in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football. The name stands for Rooms Katholieke Combinatie, a nod to its founding in 1940 when three local Catholic clubs merged. For decades, RKC competed in amateur leagues, then turned professional in 1984. Four years later, they reached the Eredivisie, the top flight, where they would stay for nineteen consecutive seasons. Founded on August 26, 1940, RKC Waalwijk emerged from the merger of three Catholic clubs: RKSV De Rk, RKSV De Vrijheid, and RKSV De Spartaan. The club spent its early decades in amateur football, but a turning point came in 1984 when it turned professional. Four years later, in 1988, RKC earned promotion to the Eredivisie, beginning a remarkable nineteen-season run in the top flight that lasted until relegation in 2007. During that era, the club achieved a rare feat for a team from a small municipality: qualifying for European competition. In the 1991-92 UEFA Cup, they faced Austrian side Tirol Innsbruck, losing 2-0 on aggregate in the first round. Another European appearance came in the 1995-96 UEFA Cup against Norwegian club Rosenborg, where they were eliminated 4-1 on aggregate. These campaigns, though brief, put RKC on the continental map.

After relegation in 2007, the club bounced back to the Eredivisie in 2009, only to drop again in 2010. A second consecutive promotion in 2011 brought them back to the top flight, where they remained until 2023, when another relegation sent them to the Eerste Divisie. Their time in the second tier has been competitive, with the club consistently challenging for promotion. In the 2025-26 season, they finished mid-table, and the 2026-27 campaign saw them face FC Dordrecht and Vitesse Arnhem in league fixtures.
