Rizin Fighting Federation

Rizin Fighting Federation, often stylized as RIZIN FF, is a Japanese mixed martial arts promotion that launched in 2015. It was founded by Nobuyuki Sakakibara, the former president of Pride Fighting Championships and Dream Stage Entertainment. Sakakibara aimed to revive the spirit of Pride FC, Hero's, and Dream, creating a promotion that blends spectacle with high-level competition. Rizin events are known for their elaborate opening ceremonies, dramatic fighter entrances, and matches held in a roped ring. The ruleset draws from Pride and Dream, and the promotion frequently hosts Grand Prix tournaments where fighters must win multiple bouts in a single night. Rizin is widely regarded as Japan's premier MMA organization.

Beyond MMA, Rizin's cards often feature other combat sports, including kickboxing (with Grand Prix tournaments in 2017 and 2021), submission grappling, boxing, and bare-knuckle boxing. The name "Rizin" combines "Raijin," the Japanese god of lightning; "rising," symbolizing prosperity and growth; and the letter "Z," representing the ultimate. With a focus on entertainment and tradition, Rizin has carved out a unique space in the global fight scene.

Rizin's brand identity leans heavily into Japanese aesthetics: taiko drum performances, kimono-clad ring girls, and calligraphy-laden stage designs. Its logo features a stylized “R” with lightning bolts. Social media presence is robust in Japan, with over 1.2 million Instagram followers and 800,000 on Twitter/X as of 2025. The promotion distributes content globally through DAZN, FITE, Sky Sports, and a 2025 Netflix deal for select events. Privately held by Sakakibara's Dream Stage Entertainment, Rizin has not disclosed revenue, but estimates place annual figures around $20–$30 million, with a valuation of $100–$150 million.[edit]
