Rishi Sunak's political career includes several significant firsts. He became the first British Asian and first Hindu to serve as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and at 42 he was the youngest person to hold the office since William Pitt the Younger in 1783. As Chancellor of the Exchequer, he designed the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which protected millions of jobs during the pandemic and was widely regarded as one of the most effective economic interventions by any developed country. His negotiation of the Windsor Framework restored devolved government in Northern Ireland after a two-year impasse.
