Riku Oe

Riku Oe is a Japanese singer and dancer who rose to global fame as the lead vocalist of the J-pop girl group NiziU. Born in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, she is known for her powerful vocal tone and energetic stage presence that anchors many of the group's hit performances. As one of the youngest members of the lineup, she balances youthful charm with professional maturity in both Japanese and Korean markets.

Her career trajectory took a sharp turn when she was selected through a high-stakes survival show produced by JYP Entertainment. Since debuting in 2020, Riku has become a central figure in NiziU's identity, contributing significantly to their chart-topping success across Asia. Fans appreciate her distinct voice and her ability to connect with audiences during live concerts and variety appearances. [edit]

Riku Oe grew up in the historic city of Uji, located in southern Kyoto Prefecture, an area famous for its ancient temples and tea production. She attended Uji City Kohata Junior High School where she lived a relatively normal life before her path diverged from the typical academic track. There are no public records indicating she had formal music or dance training prior to her discovery; her raw talent was simply waiting to be found.

The pivotal moment arrived in 2019 when she auditioned for Nizi Project, a reality survival show designed to form a new international girl group. The competition was fierce, involving hundreds of applicants from across Japan. Riku impressed the judges with her natural singing ability and confident stage presence, ultimately ranking second in the final evaluation. This selection required her to make a difficult choice: she dropped out of high school to move into a dormitory and dedicate herself entirely to rigorous training under JYP Entertainment. This decision marked the end of her ordinary student life and the beginning of her journey toward becoming a professional idol. [edit]

Riku's professional debut came after the conclusion of the Nizi Project in 2019, where she secured a spot in the nine-member lineup that would become NiziU. The group officially launched on June 30, 2020, with the digital single Make You Happy. The song became an instant sensation in Japan, topping the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart and eventually earning platinum certification. Riku's vocals were a key component of the track's success, showcasing her range and stability.

Following the debut, the group quickly expanded their reach with subsequent releases like Step and Step and Catch Me If You Can. In 2021, they released their first full album, NIZI P, which solidified their fanbase and demonstrated their musical growth. Riku continued to shine during this period, often taking the lead on challenging vocal parts during live performances and variety shows. Her ability to perform consistently while touring internationally helped establish NiziU as a major force in the Asian pop scene.

The group's momentum continued through 2022 with the release of Punchline and participation in major music festivals. By 2023, they had released the documentary film NiziU: Heartris, offering fans an intimate look at their daily lives and struggles. More recently, in 2025, the group released NiziU: Love Emotion, a project highlighting their emotional connection with fans. Throughout these years, Riku has remained a steady and reliable presence, adapting to the evolving demands of the industry while maintaining her signature style. [edit]
