Richard Scarry's impact on children's literature is immense. He wrote and illustrated over 300 books that have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, making him one of the best-selling children's authors of all time. His Busytown series has been translated into dozens of languages and adapted into a beloved TV show. He received the Society of Illustrators Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990 and was posthumously inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012. His book What Do People Do All Day? was named one of TIME's 100 Best Children's Books of All Time in 2015.
