His journey took him from local youth systems in his home country to the rigorous demands of European football before returning to South America. Lodi made his mark playing for clubs like Olympique Lyonnais, where he became a regular starter in Ligue 1. That experience on French soil sharpened his game against some of the continent's best strikers and prepared him for international duty.

Across his career, he has faced top-tier competition in France, Italy, Spain, and Brazil, adapting quickly to different tactical styles. His return to Atlético Mineiro signals a new chapter focused on winning domestic titles and leading by example for younger players. Ronan Lodi was born in Serrana, a city in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil, into a family with a strong connection to football. Growing up in this region, he developed a deep passion for the sport early on. Unlike many players who stay in Brazil until adulthood, Lodi moved to Europe at a young age to further his career. He joined the youth setup of Grêmio, one of Brazil's most prestigious academies known for producing notable talent, before moving to Italy and then France. His education was largely centered around football training rather than traditional academic pursuits, a common path for elite athletes in Brazil.

His early development was marked by rapid progression through the ranks, showcasing technical ability and defensive solidity that caught the attention of European scouts. He began his senior debut for Grêmio in 2016, but it was his transfer to Italian club Torino in 2017 that truly launched his professional career. This move made him the first Brazilian to play for the club in over a decade. However, his most significant rise occurred during his tenure with Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon), where he established himself as a first-team regular in Ligue 1 after joining in 2019. These formative years laid the groundwork for his transition into one of the world's more versatile full-backs.[edit]

Lodi's breakthrough came shortly after his time in Italy when he signed for Olympique Lyonnais in 2019 for a reported fee of €13 million. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular in Ligue 1, known for his pace, crossing ability, and defensive work rate. In July 2022, he moved to La Liga giants Atlético Madrid for a fee of €15 million. At Atlético, he initially struggled to secure a consistent starting spot due to fierce competition but eventually found his rhythm, contributing significantly to the team's defensive stability.

A notable moment in his career occurred in the 2024-2025 season when he scored a brace against Celta Vigo, helping propel Atlético Madrid up the table. In December 2025, Lodi made a high-profile decision to return to South America. Despite interest from AS Roma, he chose to rejoin his former club, Atlético Mineiro, in Brazil. This move was widely reported as a choice to prioritize family and a new challenge in the domestic league. As of mid-2026, he has hit his best goal tally in a single season for Atlético Mineiro, demonstrating an evolved attacking threat from the left-back position. In August 2026, he was named Man of the Match in a UEFA Champions League fixture while representing Atlético Mineiro, highlighting his continued high-level performance on the continental stage.[edit]

Lodi is portrayed as a disciplined, hard-working, and technically gifted defender. Media narratives often highlight his resilience and adaptability, particularly in his transition from the physical demands of Serie A and Ligue 1 to the tactical sophistication of La Liga and the Brazilian league. He is seen as a mature professional who values consistency over flashiness. His style of play is characterized by strong defending and the ability to contribute offensively, making him a versatile asset for any team. Fans often refer to him affectionately as "Lodi" or "Renan," appreciating his tactical flexibility which allows him to occasionally play as a left midfielder.[edit]
