About This Album
Red (Taylor's Version) is the second installment in Taylor Swift's ambitious project to reclaim her early catalog, following the 2019 dispute over the master recordings. Released on November 12, 2021, through Republic Records, this re-recording of her 2012 album Red arrives with a significant upgrade: 30 tracks in total, blending the original 16 songs with nine "From the Vault" cuts, the charity single "Ronan," and solo versions of "Better Man" and "Babe," which she had previously written for other artists. The album spans pop, country, rock, and electronic, weaving acoustic guitars, strings, and synth textures into a rich sonic tapestry that explores the many shades of love and heartbreak, from the wistful nostalgia of "State of Grace" to the raw anger of "I Bet You Think About Me."
Swift reunited with most of the original producers, including Nathan Chapman and Dann Huff, while new collaborators like Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, and Elvira Anderfjärd shaped the vault tracks. Guest appearances from Phoebe Bridgers, Chris Stapleton, and Ed Sheeran add fresh dynamics, with Sheeran appearing on both "Everything Has Changed" and the new "Run." The centerpiece is "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)," a sprawling, emotionally devastating ballad that Swift co-wrote with Liz Rose and which she also adapted into a self-directed short film. Critics praised the re-recordings for their polished production and Swift's matured vocals, and the album shot to number one in seven countries, including the US, where it became her fourth chart-topper in under 16 months. It also set a Billboard Hot 100 record with 26 simultaneous entries, with the ten-minute "All Too Well" becoming the longest song ever to top the chart. Beyond its commercial success, Red (Taylor's Version) sparked the "Sad Girl Autumn" trend and earned multiple awards, including a Billboard Music Award and two American Music Awards.
