    About

Real Salt Lake arrived on the MLS scene in 2005 as an expansion team designed to bring top-tier soccer to the Intermountain West. The club chose Sandy, Utah, for its permanent home after playing initial seasons at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the University of Utah campus. America First Field opened in 2008 and now serves as a shared hub for professional soccer in the state alongside Utah Royals FC.

Pablo Mastroeni built the team into a model of consistency during his long tenure as head coach. His leadership transformed the franchise from a new arrival into a regular playoff participant who could challenge established powers. While Mike Petke and Freddy Juarez have also managed the squad over the years, Mastroeni defined the club's identity and sustained success through multiple decades.

    History

The 2009 season marked the franchise's first major milestone when Real Salt Lake won the MLS Cup. They defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 1–0 in extra time thanks to a goal by Kyle Beckerman. That same year, the team also captured the U.S. Open Cup title. A decade later, RSL reached another final in 2018 but fell to Atlanta United. The club secured the Supporters' Shield in 2013, finishing with the best regular-season record in the league before losing in the playoffs.

Recent campaigns show the team maintaining its competitive edge. In August 2026, Joaquín Pereyra scored in the 89th minute to secure a 1–1 draw against Minnesota United. The squad unveiled a new Black Diamond kit that season while advancing to the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup against Club León.
