Raif Badawi

Raif Badawi's accolades reflect his extraordinary bravery in the face of state repression. The Sakharov Prize, awarded by the European Parliament, is one of the highest honors for human rights defenders, and Badawi was named its 2015 laureate. His case has also been taken up by the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, whose chair, Irwin Cotler, serves as his legal counsel. The international community has consistently recognized him as a symbol of the struggle for free speech.
