Rafaela Aponte-Diamant

She is an Italian-Israeli entrepreneur who, with her husband Gianluigi Aponte, founded the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Group. The company began in 1970 with a single secondhand cargo vessel, the Patricia, operating between the Mediterranean and East Africa. From that modest start, MSC grew into one of the world's largest container shipping lines, with a fleet of more than 700 vessels and a global network spanning 155 countries. Aponte-Diamant has held a 50 percent stake in MSC since its founding, making her one of the wealthiest women in the world.
