Rachel Dawes

Rachel Dawes grew up at Wayne Manor, where her mother worked as a domestic servant. She became a close childhood friend of Bruce Wayne. After the murder of Bruce's parents, her mother left the manor, taking Rachel with her. As an adult, Rachel became an assistant district attorney in Gotham City. She is one of the few people who knows Bruce's secret identity as Batman, having discovered his identity early in his vigilante career. [edit]

Rachel is idealistic, strong-willed, and morally driven. She believes in justice through the legal system and is not afraid to challenge Bruce's methods as Batman. She is compassionate but pragmatic, able to see the good in people while acknowledging their flaws. Her love for Bruce is genuine, but she refuses to let it compromise her principles. [edit]

In Batman Begins, Rachel serves as Bruce's moral anchor, pushing him to do more for Gotham while questioning his path. She becomes romantically involved with Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, seeing him as the city's symbol of hope. The Joker kidnaps both Rachel and Harvey, forcing Batman to choose whom to save. The Joker gives Batman the wrong address; Batman saves Harvey, while Rachel dies in an explosion. Her death corrupts Harvey into Two-Face and deepens Bruce's isolation.
