Public Enemy's trophy case tells a story of respect earned the hard way. The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 put them in a rare club of artists whose influence outlasts trends. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2013 came early in their eligibility, a sign that the establishment had to catch up to them. Their MTV Video Vanguard Award in 2012 recognized the visual power of their work, from the S1Ws' marching formations to the crosshairs logo. And their first four albums, all gold or platinum, remain a benchmark for what a run of records can achieve.
