PUBG Mobile
Andorra"100 players. One island. Last one standing."
Overview
PUBG Mobile is a free-to-play battle royale game that launched on March 19, 2018, bringing the intense last-man-standing action of the PC hit PUBG: Battlegrounds to mobile devices. Developed by LightSpeed Studios (a Tencent Games division) alongside PUBG Studios, the game drops 100 players onto a remote island where they scavenge for weapons, armor, and vehicles, fighting to be the sole survivor. A shrinking play zone forces constant movement and tense encounters, blending survival strategy with fast-paced shooting. Players can choose between third-person and first-person perspectives, and matches support solo, duo, or squad configurations.
The game is published globally by Level Infinite, with regional partners Krafton (Korea and Japan), HotCool Game (Taiwan), and VNG Games (Vietnam). Built on Unreal Engine 4, it delivers surprisingly polished graphics and smooth performance on mobile hardware. By January 2026, PUBG Mobile had accumulated roughly 1.75 billion downloads and grossed over $15 billion, making it one of the most-played and highest-grossing mobile games ever. Its success spawned Battlegrounds Mobile India in 2021 and the spin-off New State Mobile, both set in the same universe.
Regular seasonal updates introduce new maps like the snowy Vikendi and the compact Livik, along with limited-time modes and collaborations. A standout feature, World of Wonder, launched in 2023, lets players create and share custom maps; by early 2026, over 5.4 million player-made maps had been generated. The game also boasts a robust esports ecosystem, from amateur tournaments to the global PUBG Mobile Club Open (PMCO) and PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC), with prize pools reaching millions of dollars.
Gameplay
Each match begins with 100 players parachuting onto a sprawling island. The goal is simple: be the last person or team alive. Players scavenge buildings for weapons, armor, medical supplies, and attachments, all while a blue electric zone steadily shrinks the safe area, forcing encounters. The game offers both third-person and first-person perspectives, each with distinct tactical advantages. Matches can be played solo, in duos, or in squads of four, with friendly fire enabled by default in squads.
PUBG Mobile features a rotating set of maps: Erangel (an abandoned Soviet island), Miramar (a desert with urban ruins), Sanhok (a dense jungle), Vikendi (a snowy landscape), and Livik (a smaller, faster-paced map for mobile). Beyond classic battle royale, arcade modes offer smaller-scale fights, team deathmatch provides respawn-based action, and limited-time events introduce twists like zombie hordes or vehicle-only combat. The World of Wonder mode, added in 2023, gives players a full map editor to design and publish their own arenas, with millions of creations already live.
Seasonal updates bring new weapons, vehicles, and cosmetics through a free battle pass system. Players earn experience and in-game currency by completing missions, which can be used to unlock outfits, weapon skins, and emotes. The game also features a robust ranking system with tiers from Bronze to Conqueror, rewarding competitive play with exclusive rewards. Voice chat and a friends list make coordination easy, while the training ground lets players practice aim and test weapons.
