Psyren

Ageha Yoshina is a typical Tokyo high schooler until he finds a phone card with a single word on it: Psyren. Using it warps him to a desolate future overrun by Dholes, monstrous creatures that feast on human flesh. Other teens arrive too, thrown into brutal survival games orchestrated by an unknown force. Ageha must quickly master PSI abilities, telekinesis, pyrokinesis, telepathy, to stay alive and unravel the mystery of the world's destruction.

Serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2007 to November 2010, the manga spans 145 chapters collected in 16 tankōbon volumes. Toshiaki Iwashiro's series blends shonen action with psychological thriller and dystopian sci-fi, exploring survival, trust, and human potential. The PSI power system drew comparisons to Hunter x Hunter's Nen for its depth and strategic combat. Critics praised the tight time-travel plot and willingness to kill major characters, though the first few volumes were called slow and the final arc felt rushed.

An anime adaptation by Satelight is scheduled for October 2026, announced in 2024 after persistent fan campaigns. Viz Media released the English version in 2-in-1 omnibus editions. The series has no sequels or spin-offs, but a 2016 one-shot, Psyren: Another World, featured alternate character designs. Japanese print sales reached about 2.5 million copies by 2011.[edit]
