Professor John Brand was a brilliant physicist who became the director of a secret NASA facility in the Colorado mountains after the agency was disbanded by the U.S. government. With Earth's crops dying from a global blight, he dedicated himself to solving humanity's extinction crisis. He conceived the Lazarus Project, sending twelve astronauts through a wormhole near Saturn to scout habitable planets. Brand also formulated two plans: Plan A, solving a gravitational equation to launch humanity into space, and Plan B, using frozen embryos to colonize a new world.
