Lamborghini Urus

The Lamborghini Urus, unveiled in December 2017 as a 2018 model, is the Italian marque's first SUV under Volkswagen Group ownership and only its second ever, following the LM002 that ended production in 1993. Built on the MLB Evo platform shared with the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg, the Urus packs a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine producing 641 horsepower in its original form. The name comes from the Latin word for wild ox, referencing the aurochs, an ancestor of modern cattle. The Urus SE plug-in hybrid variant, launched in 2024, raises total output to 789 horsepower and hits a top speed of 194 mph (312 km/h), making it the fastest production SUV in the world as of 2025.

Inside, the Urus offers a fully digital cockpit with dual touchscreens, premium leather and Alcantara upholstery, and seating for five, with an optional four-seat configuration. Driving modes include Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia, Terra, and Neve, adapting the adaptive air suspension, active torque vectoring, and rear-wheel steering to different conditions. The aggressive exterior features sharp lines, hexagonal wheel arches, and a low-slung silhouette that mirrors Lamborghini's sports cars. Critics praise its explosive acceleration and surprising handling, though they note its heavy weight, around 4,850 pounds, and high fuel consumption, averaging about 14 mpg combined. The Urus Performante, introduced in 2022, sheds 104 pounds through carbon fiber components and boosts power to 657 horsepower, improving 0-60 mph time to 3.3 seconds.

The Urus has been a commercial triumph, consistently accounting for over 60% of Lamborghini's annual sales. In 2023, the company delivered 10,112 vehicles, with the Urus being the best-seller. This success helped Lamborghini achieve consistent profitability for the first time in its history. The model has also reshaped the luxury SUV landscape, inspiring competitors like Ferrari to enter the segment with the Purosangue. Appearing in music videos, films like the Fast & Furious franchise, and countless social media posts, the Urus has become a status symbol for celebrities, athletes, and influencers.
