BMW M6

The BMW M6 was BMW's answer to drivers who craved a luxury grand tourer with race-bred performance. Produced from 1983 to 2019, with a long pause between 1990 and 2004, the M6 spanned three generations of the 6 Series. It started as a coupe, later adding a convertible and a four-door Gran Coupe. The M6 combined a powerful engine, upgraded suspension, and aggressive styling, setting it apart from the standard 6 Series.

The final generation, launched in 2012 as the F12 coupe, F13 convertible, and F06 Gran Coupe, packed a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that made 560 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. That engine sent power to the rear wheels through either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The M6 could hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and, with the optional M Driver's Package, topped out at 190 mph. Inside, it offered ventilated seats, high-quality leather, and enough comfort for long cross-country trips.

Production ended in 2019 when BMW replaced the M6 with the M8. Enthusiasts still debate which generation is best. The E24 from the 1980s has a raw, analog charm. The E63/E64 from 2005 to 2010 used a Formula 1-derived V10 that screamed to 8,250 rpm. And the F13 generation brought modern turbocharged punch. The M6 Gran Coupe, in particular, has developed a quiet following as a four-door sports car that flies under the radar compared to the M3 or M5. [edit]
