Portkey Games

Portkey Games is a publishing label under Warner Bros. Games, established in November 2017 with the express purpose of creating interactive experiences set in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. The label was conceived as a mobile-first initiative, but it has since expanded into major console and PC releases. Its early output included narrative-driven mobile games such as Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery (2018) and Harry Potter: Magic Awakened (2022), which explored character-driven storytelling and social gameplay.

The label's breakout moment came with Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world action RPG developed by Avalanche Software and released in February 2023. The game, which lets players attend Hogwarts as a fifth-year student, sold over 15 million copies in its first quarter and generated more than $1 billion in revenue within weeks of launch. It features a star-studded voice cast including Simon Pegg as Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black and Sebastian Croft as the player character. Its success repositioned Portkey Games as a major player in the AAA gaming space, and it has since released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions in September 2024, a competitive multiplayer sports title.

Headquartered in Burbank, California, Portkey Games operates as a distinct brand within Warner Bros. Games, coordinating with external studios like Avalanche Software and Krome Studios. In late 2025, the acquisition of Warner Bros. by Netflix for $82.7 billion brought the label under new corporate ownership, though it continues to operate with relative independence. The label remains committed to expanding the Wizarding World across platforms, with Hogwarts Legacy confirmed for the Nintendo Switch 2 and active development on a sequel. [edit]
