Portgas D. Ace was born on October 6 in the year 847 as the illegitimate son of Gol D. Roger, the man known as the Pirate King, and Portgas D. Rouge. The World Government sought to execute any offspring of Roger to prevent the return of his legacy, so Rouge concealed her pregnancy for eighteen months before dying from illness shortly after giving birth on an island in the South Blue. Monkey D. Garp discovered the infant and raised him alongside his own sons, Sabo and Luffy, while hiding Ace's true lineage by giving him the surname Portgas.
