    Overview

Pokémon Unite strips away the traditional turn-based combat of the main series and drops you into fast, frantic 5v5 matches. It is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) from TiMi Studio Group, published by The Pokémon Company worldwide and by Tencent Games in China. The game launched on Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2021, followed by mobile releases on iOS and Android on September 22, 2021. It was first teased during a Pokémon Presents presentation on June 24, 2020, as a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Tencent-owned TiMi. By July 2024, it had been downloaded over 200 million times across all platforms.

Unlike traditional MOBAs, Unite replaces the usual towers and base-destroying objectives with a simple goal: score points by depositing Aeos energy into the enemy team's goal zones. Matches are timed, typically ten minutes, and the team with the most points at the end wins. Each Pokémon has a unique set of moves that can be upgraded during a match, and wild Pokémon on the map provide experience and buffs. The game is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and is available on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.

    Gameplay

Matches are 5v5, but the core objective is scoring points, not destroying a base. Players collect Aeos Energy from wild Pokémon or defeated opponents and deposit it into the enemy's goal zones. Each goal zone has a limited amount of points it can accept before being destroyed, opening up the map. Leveling up is shared across the team, encouraging group fights over individual farming. Every Pokémon learns two of four possible moves as they level, chosen by the player at levels 5 and 7. Unite Moves, powerful ultimates, charge over time and can swing a match. The game also features a ranked mode with tiers from Beginner to Master, and quick 4v4 or 3v3 modes on smaller maps like Shivre City.

    Story

There is no narrative or story mode. The premise is that players compete in the Aeos Cup tournament on Aeos Island, where wild Pokémon generate the energy used for scoring. No characters, villains, or plot arcs exist beyond this sports-like framework.
