Miley Cyrus traded her polished pop sound for a gritty, guitar-driven roar on Plastic Hearts, her seventh studio album released November 27, 2020. The record marked her final project with RCA Records before she moved to Columbia in early 2021. It embraces a mix of glam rock, punk, new wave, and synth-pop, featuring 15 tracks that channel the energy of the 1970s and 1980s.
Cyrus assembled a production team including Andrew Watt, Louis Bell, Mark Ronson, and Andrew Wyatt to create a heavy, anthemic sound. The album features high-profile collaborations, most notably Dua Lipa on Prisoner and Billy Idol on Night Crawling. Critics noted the raw vocals and cohesive direction as a sharp turn from her earlier country and pop experiments.
Commercially, the album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 and topped the Top Rock Albums chart. It earned Gold certification in the United States and Platinum status in Australia and the UK. In June 2025, Cyrus described the project as a trauma response to personal struggles during its creation.
