Pirates of the Caribbean Collection
In 2003, Disney took a gamble on a movie based on a theme park ride. The result was Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, a swashbuckling adventure that defied expectations and launched a billion-dollar franchise. Directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film combined supernatural horror with comedic flair, anchored by an unforgettable performance from Johnny Depp as the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow.
The story follows blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and the spirited Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) as they ally with the roguish Jack Sparrow to rescue Elizabeth from the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, led by the treacherous Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). The pirates are doomed to eternal undeath, their flesh turning to skeletal forms under moonlight, until they return stolen Aztec gold. The film grossed over $654 million worldwide and earned five Academy Award nominations, including Best Actor for Depp.

On a foggy night in Port Royal, young Elizabeth Swann rescues a drowning boy named Will Turner, taking a gold medallion from his neck. Years later, Elizabeth is a governor's daughter, engaged to Commodore Norrington, but still drawn to Will, now a blacksmith. Their world shatters when the pirate ship Black Pearl attacks, its crew searching for the medallion. Elizabeth is kidnapped by Captain Barbossa, who reveals his men are cursed: they cannot feel pleasure or die, and they turn into skeletons under the moonlight. The curse can only be broken by returning all the medallions to the Aztec chest, along with a blood sacrifice.
Meanwhile, Captain Jack Sparrow arrives in Port Royal, having lost his ship to Barbossa years ago. He rescues Elizabeth but is captured by Norrington. Will, desperate to save Elizabeth, breaks Jack out of jail, promising to help him reclaim the Black Pearl. They steal the HMS Interceptor and set sail for Tortuga to recruit a crew. There, they meet Anamaria, a woman seeking revenge on Jack for stealing her ship. The crew heads to Isla de Muerta, where Barbossa plans to use Elizabeth's blood to break the curse.
On the island, Jack and Will sneak into the cave where the cursed pirates guard the treasure. Will is captured, and Barbossa learns he is the son of Bootstrap Bill Turner, a pirate who was marooned for opposing the mutiny. Barbossa plans to use Will's blood instead. Elizabeth, with help from Jack, escapes and joins the fight. The Royal Navy, led by Norrington, arrives, but Jack tricks Barbossa into a duel. During the chaos, Will uses his blood to mark the last medallion, and Elizabeth returns it to the chest, breaking the curse just as Barbossa is about to kill Jack. Barbossa becomes mortal and is shot by Jack. Norrington arrests Jack, but Elizabeth declares her love for Will, freeing herself from her engagement. Jack is sentenced to be marooned, but he cleverly escapes and sails away on a small boat, vowing to find the Black Pearl.
