Pink Venom

Blackpink launched "Pink Venom" on August 19, 2022, as the lead single from their second studio album, Born Pink. This track, released by YG Entertainment and Interscope Records, masterfully blends hip-hop, pop rap, dance, and EDM. It weaves in traditional Korean instrumentation, echoes of 90s hip-hop, and elements of electropop, creating a soundscape that is both familiar and fresh.

The song was written by Teddy Park and Danny Chung, with Teddy Park, 24, R.Tee, and Ido handling production. While critics offered mixed reviews, with some noting a lack of evolution from the group's previous material, the track resonated powerfully with audiences worldwide. It became a commercial success, spending two weeks at the top of the Billboard Global 200, a first for any girl group. It also climbed to number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. In Australia, "Pink Venom" made history as the first song by a K-pop group to reach number one on the ARIA Charts, and it secured top spots in eight other countries. Domestically, it reached number two on South Korea's Circle Digital Chart.

The accompanying music video, directed by Seo Hyun-seung, shattered records upon its release. It garnered 90.4 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube, marking the biggest debut of 2022 and the third-largest in YouTube history at the time. The visual spectacle earned Blackpink the award for Best Choreography at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards and Best Music Video at the 2022 MAMA Awards. Blackpink's performance of "Pink Venom" at the VMAs also made them the first Korean girl group to perform on the show.[edit]
