Phony

Nick Paley's Phony launches on Hulu this October with a premise that twists the familiar mother-son dynamic into something far stranger. The series follows Sonny, played by Sam Nivola, who wakes from a car accident to find his life upended: his mother, Ellen, portrayed by Connie Britton, is no longer the woman he remembers. Instead, an impostor has taken her place, and nothing in their small town feels quite right anymore. This eight-episode first season blends comedy, drama, and mystery as the pair navigates a reality where trust is the most fragile currency. With a cast including Grace Brennan as Mallory and Maliq Johnson as Vogel, the show leans heavily into the psychological tension of a family unraveling under suspicious circumstances. Early audience reactions suggest a sharp, unsettling tone, though the current rating sits modestly at 4.7 out of 10 based on just three votes. As a returning series, it promises to dig deeper into the question of identity before the final curtain falls.[edit]
