Perfect Velvet

Perfect Velvet, Red Velvet's second studio album, arrived on November 17, 2017, via SM Entertainment. It's a deep dive into the group's "velvet" side, blending R&B, soul, and hip-hop with touches of future bass, trap, and synth-pop. The record showcases a more mature and sultry sound compared to their brighter "red" releases, a direction first explored on their 2016 EP The Velvet. The album was later reissued as The Perfect Red Velvet on January 29, 2018.

Critics praised the album's cohesion and boldness. Idology and Weiv both named it the best album of 2017, and Billboard ranked it fifth on their list of the best K-pop albums of the 2010s. It hit number two on the Gaon Album Chart and topped the Billboard World Albums chart. The title track Peek-a-Boo and the reissue's lead single Bad Boy were both hits. The group promoted the album on Korean music shows and even performed Bad Boy in North Korea at the "Spring is Coming" concert, attended by Kim Jong-un. The album earned nominations for Best Pop Album at the Korean Music Awards and Album of the Year at the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Awards. [edit]
