Records
Castillo's most significant achievement is winning the Peruvian presidency from a rural, peasant background, a historic first. His leadership of the 2017 teachers' strike was a landmark labor action that paralyzed the country for 75 days and forced the government to negotiate. He was recognized by TIME as one of the 100 emerging leaders in 2021 and appeared on Forbes' Most Powerful People list that same year.
