PEC Zwolle

PEC Zwolle, whose full name is Prins Hendrik Ende Despereert Nimmer Combinatie Zwolle, is a Dutch professional football club based in the city of Zwolle, in the province of Overijssel. The club competes in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football, and has spent 22 seasons at that level. Its best league finish came in 2015, when it ended sixth. On the cup front, Zwolle lifted the KNVB Cup in 2014, and reached the final on three other occasions: 1928, 1977, and 2015.

This is the second incarnation of the club. The original PEC Zwolle went bankrupt in 1990, and the current club was founded immediately afterwards under the name FC Zwolle. It wasn't until 2012 that the club reverted to its historic PEC Zwolle moniker. The club's home ground is the MAC³PARK Stadion, which has been the site of many memorable evenings, particularly during the 2014 cup triumph and the subsequent Europa League campaign. [edit]

PEC Zwolle's roots stretch back to 1910, but the club as it exists today emerged from the ashes of the original after bankruptcy in 1990. Reborn as FC Zwolle, the club climbed back to the Eredivisie and reclaimed its historic name in 2012. The 2013-14 season was a watershed: under Dick Schreuder, the team stunned Ajax 5-1 in the KNVB Cup final, securing the club's first major trophy and a Europa League spot. That European adventure saw them eliminate Dinamo Bucharest before falling to Napoli in the playoff round.

The subsequent years brought a sixth-place league finish in 2015, another cup final appearance that same year (lost 2-0 to PSV), and a gradual slide into the Eerste Divisie in 2018. Promotion came back in 2021, and since then the club has yo-yoed between the top two divisions, most recently earning promotion in 2024. The 2026-27 season opened with a 0-2 home defeat to Ajax, leaving the team 16th early on. Despite the struggles, the club remains a staple of Dutch football, known for its passionate support and the famous Overijssel derby against Go Ahead Eagles. [edit]
