Patricky Freire

Patricky de Sousa Freire is a Brazilian mixed martial artist who competes in the Lightweight division. Known professionally as Patricky Pitbull, he carved out a legendary status in Bellator MMA where he became the organization's first-ever Lightweight Champion. His aggressive striking style and high knockout power earned him the nickname "Brazilian King of K.O." alongside his younger brother Patrício.

Standing at 5 feet 7 inches, Patricky has spent over a decade on the international stage. While often overshadowed by his brother's tenure in the UFC, Patricky secured his own legacy by dominating the Bellator lightweight ranks for years. He remains an active competitor in 2026 despite facing a challenging recent streak of losses. [edit]

Patricky grew up in Mossoró, a city in northeastern Brazil, within a family deeply rooted in combat sports. He was raised in a modest environment alongside his younger brother Patrício, driven by a shared desire to escape poverty through athletic success. The brothers trained together from a young age, initially focusing on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu before transitioning to Mixed Martial Arts. Their upbringing was defined by a rigorous gym culture where they honed their skills under local coaches before moving to larger training camps in Brazil.

There was no formal higher education documented for Patricky; his education was entirely practical, derived from the discipline of professional fighting and the mentorship of his brother and trainers. He turned professional in the mid-2000s, building a record in regional South American promotions. These early victories caught the attention of major organizations and set the stage for his eventual move to the international spotlight. [edit]

Patricky joined Bellator MMA in 2009 and quickly established himself as a top contender in the Lightweight division. In 2015, he achieved the pinnacle of his career by defeating Benson Henderson to become the inaugural Bellator Lightweight Champion. This victory cemented his legacy as a titleholder in one of the sport's premier organizations. Following his championship win, Patricky successfully defended his belt multiple times against elite competition, including Rafael dos Anjos.

His reign ended on November 19, 2022, when he faced Usman Nurmagomedov in a unification bout. Despite a strong showing, he was decisively routed by Nurmagomedov via unanimous decision. As of 2026, Patricky continues to compete in high-profile bouts, though recent records indicate a difficult period with a five-fight losing streak according to Tapology. [edit]
