About
Patek Philippe SA, based in Geneva and the Vallée de Joux, has been crafting luxury watches and clocks since 1839. The company was founded by Antoni Patek and Adrien Philippe, and since 1932 it has been under the ownership of the Stern family, making it the last family-owned independent watch manufacturer in Geneva. With an unbroken history of watchmaking, Patek Philippe designs and produces timepieces and movements, including some of the most complicated mechanical watches ever made. The brand operates over 400 retail locations worldwide and has more than a dozen distribution centers across Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceania. In 2001, it opened the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva, showcasing its rich heritage.
Patek Philippe is regarded as one of the most prestigious watch manufacturers globally. As of July 2023, nine of the ten most expensive watches ever sold at auction were Patek Philippe models. The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A-010 holds the record for the most expensive watch and wristwatch ever sold at auction, fetching US$31 million (27 million CHF). Meanwhile, the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication, the world's most complicated mechanical watch until 1989, remains the most expensive pocket watch ever sold at auction, at US$24 million (21 million CHF).
