Miley Cyrus released 'Party in the U.S.A.' on August 11, 2009, as the lead single from her debut EP The Time of Our Lives. Written and produced by Dr. Luke with Jessie J and Claude Kelly, the song blends dance-pop with a reggae-tinged guitar riff. It chronicles Cyrus's move from Nashville to Los Angeles, capturing her culture shock. The track peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, blocked by Jay Sean's 'Down,' and spent 40 weeks on the chart.
