On February 13, 2012, Katy Perry dropped "Part of Me" as the lead single from Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, a reissue of her blockbuster 2010 album. The song runs 3 minutes and 35 seconds, a tight dance-pop and power pop track with a driving house beat under Perry's defiant lyrics. She sings about a woman who refuses to be broken by a failed relationship, declaring her ex gets no part of her now. Early speculation tied the song to Perry's divorce from Russell Brand, but she clarified it was written in early 2010, before the marriage even ended.

Co-written by Perry, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Bonnie McKee, the song was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Cirkut. It debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry's seventh chart-topper in the US. In the UK, it also entered at number one, selling 79,079 copies in its first week and becoming her third number one there. Internationally, it reached number five in Ireland and earned Platinum certification from the BPI and Gold in Italy.

The music video, directed by Ben Mor and shot at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in February 2012, shows Perry cutting her hair short and enlisting in the Marines after a breakup. It premiered March 21 on MTV and has since surpassed one billion views on YouTube, making Perry the first artist with nine videos in the Billion Views Club. The song became a staple of her live shows and a defining anthem of resilience from her commercial peak.
