Amazon Bedrock was first announced in April 2023 at AWS Summit San Francisco. The service entered public preview in July 2023 and reached general availability on September 28, 2023, with the Amazon Titan Embeddings model. The rollout expanded rapidly: on October 6, 2023, the service became available in Asia Pacific (Tokyo), its third region. On October 19, 2023, it launched in Europe (Frankfurt), its first European region.

At AWS re:Invent 2023 on November 28, 2023, two major components reached general availability: Agents for Amazon Bedrock and Knowledge Bases for Amazon Bedrock. These additions allowed customers to build autonomous AI agents and connect foundation models to proprietary data sources. In October 2024, Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet v2 and the Computer Use beta became available on the platform. Prompt Management reached general availability in November 2024.

Throughout 2025, Bedrock continued to expand its model catalog. Claude Opus 4.1 launched in August 2025, followed by DeepSeek-V3.1 and Qwen3 models in September 2025.
