    About This Album

Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 is the seventh studio album by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, released on November 28, 2005 via Epic Records. It serves as the English-language companion to her Spanish-language album Fijación Oral, Vol. 1, which came out five months earlier. Shakira wrote 60 songs for the two-part project, whittling them down to 20 and splitting them between the two volumes. The album blends pop rock, Latin pop, and dance-pop with touches of trip hop, alternative rock, and world music, featuring accordions, electric and acoustic guitars, electronic beats, and orchestral arrangements. Lyrics appear in English, Spanish, Latin, Arabic, Hebrew, and French.

Shakira produced the album alongside a team that included Gustavo Cerati, Lester Mendez, Luis Fernando Ochoa, Jerry Duplessis, Wyclef Jean, Tim Mitchell, and The Matrix, with Rick Rubin serving as executive producer. Guest appearances include Carlos Santana on "Illegal", Wyclef Jean on "Hips Don't Lie", Gustavo Cerati on "The Day and the Time", and Alejandro Sanz on an alternate version of "La Tortura". The standard edition contains 11 tracks running 42 minutes, while expanded editions add remixes and Spanish versions, stretching to 16 tracks and nearly 61 minutes.

The album debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 128,000 copies. It topped charts in Denmark and Mexico and reached the top ten in several other countries. The RIAA certified it platinum, and it has sold over 1.7 million units in the United States and approximately 8 million copies worldwide. Critical reception was generally favorable; Rolling Stone noted that the album "sustains that album's eclecticism and darker moods" and "maintains the musical credibility that Fijacion Oral won back."

The album's trajectory changed dramatically with the addition of "Hips Don't Lie", a collaboration with Wyclef Jean that became one of the biggest hits of 2006. The song topped charts in over 55 countries, became Shakira's first US Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, and was nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 49th Grammy Awards. The album itself received nominations for Album of the Year at the Latin Billboard Music Awards and Lo Nuestro Awards.
