Olenna was born Olenna Redwyne, the daughter of Lord Runceford Redwyne of the Arbor. The Redwynes are a wealthy and powerful house known for their fleet and fine wines. From a young age, Olenna displayed a sharp intellect and a talent for political maneuvering. She married Lord Luthor Tyrell, becoming the Lady of Highgarden. After Luthor's accidental death, he rode his horse off a cliff while hawking, Olenna effectively took control of House Tyrell, sidelining her son Mace, whom she considered vain and incompetent.
