Oleg Salenko's most remarkable achievement is his five-goal performance against Cameroon at the 1994 World Cup, a record that has stood for over three decades. He is one of only two players to score five goals in a World Cup match, and the only one to do so in a single game. His six goals in the tournament earned him the Golden Boot, a rare distinction for a player from a team that did not advance past the group stage. While his club career was solid, his World Cup feat remains a unique and celebrated moment in football history.

AwardsSalenko won the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot in 1994, sharing the award with Hristo Stoichkov. He also won the Soviet Top League and Soviet Cup with Dynamo Kyiv in 1990, and the Scottish Premier Division with Rangers in 1995–96.
