    Overview

Steven Soderbergh's sleek heist thriller brings together an all-star cast for a stylish Las Vegas caper. George Clooney leads as Danny Ocean, a charming thief who, just hours after being paroled, assembles a crack team to rob three casinos simultaneously. The target: $150 million from the vaults of Terry Benedict, played with cold precision by Andy Garcia. Brad Pitt co-stars as Danny's right-hand man Rusty Ryan, while Julia Roberts appears as Tess Ocean, Danny's ex-wife caught in the middle. The film, a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack original, became a massive hit, earning over $450 million worldwide on an $85 million budget. Its blend of wit, tension, and cool camaraderie set the tone for a franchise that includes two sequels and a spin-off.

Production moved fast. Soderbergh, doubling as cinematographer under the pseudonym Peter Andrews, shot much of the film on location in Las Vegas, using available light to capture the authentic neon glow. The cast famously became close friends during filming, their off-screen chemistry translating into the effortless banter on screen. Don Cheadle improvised Basher Tarr's distinctive Cockney accent, which Soderbergh liked so much he kept it in the final cut. The score, composed by David Holmes, blends electronic, trip-hop, and jazz influences to drive the film's cool, propulsive rhythm.

Danny Ocean walks out of a New Jersey prison and, within hours, is already planning his next score. He drives straight to Las Vegas and pitches an audacious idea to his old friend Rusty Ryan: rob the three biggest casinos on the Strip in one night. The casinos are the Bellagio, the Mirage, and the MGM Grand, all owned by Terry Benedict, a ruthless businessman who also happens to be dating Danny's ex-wife, Tess. Danny's motives are not purely financial; he wants to win Tess back and settle a score with Benedict.

Rusty is skeptical but intrigued. Together they recruit a crew of eleven specialists. Reuben Tishkoff, a former casino owner forced out by Benedict, bankrolls the operation. The Malloy brothers, Virgil and Turk, are expert drivers. Basher Tarr is a demolitions man with a flair for the dramatic. Livingston Dell handles surveillance and security systems. Yen is a contortionist who can slip through vents. Frank Catton is an insider who works as a card dealer. Saul Bloom is a veteran con artist. And Linus Caldwell is a young pickpocket eager to prove himself.

The plan is intricate. It hinges on the night of a heavyweight championship fight, when the vaults will be fullest. The crew must infiltrate the casino, bypass a state-of-the-art security system, and escape with $150 million in cash. They set up a series of diversions: a fake medical emergency, a staged fight, and a power outage. Meanwhile, Danny works to keep Tess close, using her as an unwitting pawn in his scheme. Benedict, suspicious of Danny's presence in Vegas, has his own people watching. The tension builds as the crew prepares for the heist, each member playing their part with precision. The night of the fight arrives, and the team moves into action, but nothing goes exactly as planned. The audience is left wondering if they can pull off the impossible.
