BTS dropped their first extended play on September 11, 2013, just months after releasing their debut single album. The title serves as a phonetic play on the Korean phrase "Oh! Are you late, too?", setting a tone of urgency for listeners to find happiness before it is gone. This project established the group's signature blend of aggressive hip-hop and socially conscious lyrics that critique rigid academic structures in South Korea.

The lead single N.O tackles the anguish of students trapped in a hopeless cycle of studying and testing. Tracks like Attack on Bangtan and BTS Cypher Pt.1 showcase raw lyrical talent from the rap line, featuring complex rhyme schemes and dark production. The physical release included a massive 74-page booklet, two photocards, and a folded poster inside a sealed package.

Critics praised the unpolished energy and refusal to conform to the polished idol image common at the time. While the EP peaked at No. 4 on the Gaon Album Chart without charting internationally initially, it secured a dedicated fanbase.
