Nomura
Japan"Japan's largest investment bank and brokerage group."
About
Nomura was born on December 25, 1925, in Osaka, when Tokushichi Nomura II spun off the securities division of his family's money-changing business. Just over a year later, the firm opened a New York office, signaling global ambitions from the start. Its founding philosophy stressed research excellence, embodied by the 1926 launch of Capital Markets Research, a journal still published today.
The company reorganized into Nomura Holdings in 2001. A defining moment came in 2008, when Nomura acquired the Asian and European operations of Lehman Brothers, vaulting the firm onto the world stage. Today, Nomura operates across four divisions: Wealth Management, Asset Management, Wholesale (Global Markets and Investment Banking), and Merchant Banking. Its Content Company, with about 400 researchers and consultants, traces back to a research department established in 1906.
Nomura's emblem is the Ivied Mountain, a traditional Japanese symbol of finance. The brand's purpose: to create a better world by harnessing the power of financial markets. In April 2024, Nomura launched the NOMURA WEALTH MANAGEMENT brand under the concept Anticipating Change, Creating Your Future Together. The firm celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2025.
